Jacob Gibson
An Emergency Medical Technician from sixteen, Jacob Gibson grew up in the emergency lifestyle. He would have happily continued serving as a professional Firefighter and EMT, However, tradition runs strong, and an opportunity to follow his mother took him into the profession of policing. At Madison County Sheriff's Office, he has served as a 911 dispatcher, and patrol deputy and currently supervises patrol operations as a sergeant. In 2008, he entered nursing school. Originally a diploma RN, he completed his BSN with honors from Urbana University. As a board-certified emergency nurse, he worked in his local ER and mega event medicine, crossing the country, learning not by reading but by doing. As an emergency nurse and police officer, Jacob noticed patients that crossed from emergency medicine to policing and back again. Forensic nursing was an obvious professional pathway to further work with victims of violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and labor trafficking. His unique perspective allows him to teach and understand tough topics, blending academic knowledge with real-world experience and earning credibility. After finishing a graduate program at Xavier University, he now operates as a recognized expert when events converge at the confluence of emergency care and public safety. When asked, Jacob calls himself an emergency professional, “I am a public safety professional, public safety leader, and emergency nurse—using my experience as a law enforcement officer, law enforcement supervisor, emergency nurse, paramedic, public safety instructor, and former firefighter to inform my insights and understanding.”
